Kolkata Knight Riders vs Royal Challengers Bangalore is a cricket rivalry between the IPL teams Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20). It is the oldest rivalry in the IPL and is often referred to as El Primero of the Indian Premier League. The two teams have met 34 times in the IPL and 1 time in the CLT20, with Kolkata Knight Riders having the most wins. Kolkata Knight Riders have 3 IPL titles while Royal Challengers Bangalore have none. The rivalry became more intense when in a face-off between the two teams in the Indian Premier League in 2013, Gautam Gambhir had a verbal altercation with Virat Kohli after he was dismissed by Lakshmipathy Balaji. [3] The incident increased the hype of the rivalry and still continues despite Gambhir's parting of ways with the Knight Riders in 2018. Virat Kohli is the leading run-scorer for Royal Challengers Bangalore with 962 runs while the leading wicket-taker is Sunil Narine (Kolkata Knight Riders) with 26 wickets.

The winning margin of 140 runs by the Knight Riders was the biggest winning margin in terms of runs. Royal Challengers defeated them against Gujarat Lions in 2016
2009...... The two teams played against each other at SuperSport Park, Centurion in the 100th match of the Indian Premier League as the tournament was moved to South Africa due to the 2009 Indian general election. RCB won the first toss of the tournament and decided to bowl. Brendon McCullum continued his form against Royal Challengers, scoring 84. KKR lost their first two wickets in quick succession for just 21 runs, but a partnership between McCullum and David Hussey helped stabilize the conditions which helped the team reach a total of 173 runs. Batting second, Royal Challengers got off to a steady start with a 58-run opening partnership between Jesse Ryder and Jacques Kallis. The team lost two wickets in quick succession which reduced them to 74/3, but partnerships between Ross Taylor and Rahul Dravid and later between Taylor and Mark Boucher successfully took the team to the finish line. 2013 NEWCHAPTER
During the second innings of the match between the two teams in the 2013 Indian Premier League at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, Virat Kohli was heckled and sledged by Lakshmipathy Balaji, which led to a heated argument between them. Gautam Gambhir also stepped in to defend his KKR teammate in the matter, which led to a war of words between him and Kohli. However, Royal Challengers won the match comfortably thanks to Chris Gayle's 81*. The incident opened a new chapter in the rivalry which further fuelled the rivalry of the two teams. Since then, this rivalry is often referred to as the "Kohli-Gambhir rivalry". During an interview with Sandajatin Sapru, Gambhir praised Kohli for the impressive transformation in his personality as a player and a person. So there was nothing personal against Virat Kohli and never will be. And I keep saying time and again that I am not surprised by what he has achieved. He was that kind of player when we saw him in the beginning but he has changed. I think from the fitness point of view and the way he has worked on his skills. He is great.
